Homeland Security accepts fake ID

The Department of Homeland Security allowed a man to enter its headquarters last week using a fake Matricula Consular card as identification, despite federal rules that say the Mexican-issued card is not valid ID at government buildings.

Bruce DeCell, a retired New York City police officer, used his phony card — which lists his place of birth as “Tijuana, B.C.” and his address as “123 Fraud Blvd.” on an incorrectly spelled “Staton Island, N.Y.” — to enter the building Wednesday for a meeting with DHS officials.

Good to know we’re all real serious about this terrahist threat thing.

Ears and Eyes

June 12th, 2006

Apparently “kids these days” are using ring tones that adults generally can’t hear while in school for their text messaging alerts.

Which, naturally, I care not a whit about.

I do find the biology aspect rather interesting though, and I’m not alone. There’s a blogger that has put up a series of test audio files for you to check your own hearing.

With headphones on, AIWA brand, I was able to hear up to 22,000 Hz. I picked that particular set of headphones out because they had such a wide range of frequency, and since I listen to a fair amount of classical music, I figured that was a pretty important thing to have.

KT Ordance July 15 Event Is On

June 12th, 2006

Richard Celata says the event will take place sans any gun building.

Straight from owner Richard Celata:

Due to the recent raid on KT Ordnance, our Whiskey Day Memorial Machine Gun Shoot, 80% Gun Build, and Ice Cream Social, has been changed to: The Whiskey Day Memorial Machine Gun Shoot and Ice Cream Social, NO gun building of any kind will take place.

I was advised by the JBT’s (also known as F Trop) NOT to have the shoot. I say, Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead. We are going to have our shoot, as our God given, Constitutionally protected right, and I will not be bullied. They may put me in jail, but they will never conquer us.

This might be worth showing up to, at least for a few days. My schedule should have me already taking some vacation in the UP of Michigan around that time, so a quick jog over to Montana (hah!) for a couple of days of shooting with some of the more, shall we say, enthusiastic gun loving types could be a good time.

The rest of Richard’s release is below the fold.

New Diggs

June 12th, 2006

I went and started tinkering with WordPress a little while ago and got everything running tonight.

Expect a few quirky things to happen while I learn how to pilot the new ship.

I’m pretty sure comments are busted right now so I’ll see what I can do about that.

UPDATE: Comments seem to be just fine now. Not sure what was wrong earlier.

Also, I’m really liking the new setup. There’s a lot more features than Blogger offered. Expect rampant use of the “below the fold” feature in the near future to hide some of more long winded posts.
