I bitch a lot about the state of our country on here, especially when it comes to gun rights and other civil rights, but this trip reminded me that we’re still a damned good place to live.

We traveled a long way, hitting 8 different states, and had zero interaction with any uniformed cop. All the while carrying 1 carbine, 2 shotguns, 4 pistols, and 7 rifles along with thousands of rounds of ammunition for them.

Then again, we did skip Yellowstone because of the cargo we were carrying. We’d likely have been hassled and sent right out of the park, so it wasn’t even worth trying.

Further, while I said we didn’t run into any uniformed officials we most likely did run into an ATF agent or informant trying to get folks to assist him in illegal activities and/or voice support for some white supremacist groups. That’s a little creepy, but at least it’s obvious.

It seems that if you stay off the radar of any police agency in the US of A you’re OK. On the other hand if you raise the ire of one of them you could be in for a battle. Just ask Richard Celata about that bit.
