OS X 10.4.7

Before a meeting today I figured I’d let my Mac iBook download the latest OS updates so that they’d be ready, installed, and all set for a quick reboot when I got out.

You know, trying to be efficient and all that.

The last update to go on was OS X 10.4.7, and was installing while I took care of a quick little issue. It never completed. When the progress bar reached 100% the machine started acting funky (hard to explain) and then OS X told me to hold own the power button until it shut off.

Totally frozen. I’d never seen an OS X mac do this before.

So, I power back on and I just see a little spinning icon for a while. I figure it’s just repairing the disk. I wait, and then wait some more. I cycled the power once more in frustration and went to lunch, hoping it ‘d be back to normal when I returned.

Nope.

Tried trouble shooting it with another Mac fan here at work. We can’t get anything. So, I suit up and head to the Apple Store in town. They’ve always got a tech on hand for when your stuff breaks. Unfortunately he wouldn’t be able to see me for another 2 and a half hours.

Great.

So, I did the only logical thing to do. I bought a new MacBook. Quit looking at me like that — I had been lusting after one since they came out. Besides, it was getting to be about tie for an upgrade anyway.

Tat said, I’m sure as Hell not going to upgrade this thing to 10.4.7 any time soon!
