House Update

December 12th, 2006

The closing date on the house got move to Friday December 15 instead of the 14th. No biggie, but it does put a slight crimp in my plans.

This past weekend I took a couple of vacation days, as did the girlfriend, so we looked at some more furniture and appliances. The only appliaces I need* to gather are a washer and dryer, so if any readers have suggestions let me know. I’m clueless on this one. Single guy, no kids, one girlfriend, so the load size isn’t a big deal. I’m just not sure what I should be looking for. I’m told simple is good, which is nice, because simple means less expensive, which I like.

*: Need is a strong word. I could always do laundry at my girlfriend’s place (15 minutes away) or my parents place (12 minutes away) but I don’t want to bother with that. I can manage for a couple of weeks that way but I want them in there ASAP.

Update on KT Ordnance / Richard Celata

December 4th, 2006

Claire Wolfe has posted that a warrant may have been issued for the arrest of Richard Celata.

No real details as of yet.

For those that may not know, Richard Celta is the owner and operator of KT Ordnance, makers of 80% firearm kits. His place was raided by the ATF and the Canadian version of the ATF in mid-June of 2006.

In mid-July of 2006 I took a trip out there to meet the man. Seems like a darned good guy to me.

New “Budget” 1911 Out

December 3rd, 2006

A ways back Springfield caused a bit of a ruckus with their GI and Mil Spec 1911′s going for $450 and $500 respectively. Hot on the heels of that STI, well known for their high-priced and high-quality 1911′s, has released their Spartan version. You can find it here.

You should be able to find it retail for about $600. The MSRP is $635.

Early report state that the trigger is excellent right out of the box. I’m not too keen on the fiber-optic adjustable sights but I’d have to handle one in person before I said one should switch them out for a ramped 3-dot system.

Should be worth putting on the radar.

UPDATE: There’s already an STI Spartan for sale on Gunbroker.com. Listing price is $699.00.

House Update

December 3rd, 2006

FYI: I should have possession of the new place by December 14th, if not sooner.

Cats

December 3rd, 2006

I’m not a big fan of cats. I can’t imagine ever getting one as a pet for myself. Why? Well, they’re not dogs. Dogs are loyal, useful, and in my experience, truely Man’s Best Friend.

Dogs love you for taking care of them. They respect you for keeping them safe.

Cats just tolerate your existence in their house because you take care of them, or so it seems to me.

When I started dating my girlfriend she had a cat: Bogey. I was abou a year old a the time. It’s exactly everything I dislike about cats. It’s not very friendly to new people. I guess I’m one of the few that has ever gotten away with petting it for more than a couple of minutes. It sometime sits next me while I blog curious as to what I’m doing with the “magical” white Apple MacBook that sometimes makes noises.

Saturday we went to the local pet store and adopted a 5 month old cat: Murphy. Bogey is a pretty hyper cat. When night hits it’s hard to keep her occupied. Whenever I try and play with her she bites and claws at me. It’s playful, but annoying. So, we figured she needed a playmate.

Murphy is the exact opposite. He’s currently sitting on my girlfriend’s feet as she watches one of the Harry Potter movies. He’s a very cuddly cat.

Long story short: After spending about 2 hours on the couch cuddling up with Murphy I’m pretty sure my girlfriend thinks I’m full of shit when I say I don’t like cats.

I think she’s right.

A 12 gauge blunderbuss?

I’m not so sure about this…

Found it via Gunner over at Say Uncle’s place.
