CZ/Huglu shotguns
I got booted out of the office on Friday around 3pm. See, word came down that a storm was heading this way so the booted those of us out that have long commutes.
It’s really nice working with and for folks that put their employees first.
I got back to Grand Rapids a fair bit over an hour later and stopped at my local pub for a beer or two before I made that final jog home. Perhaps not the best use of my time, but that’s what I did.
There’s a regular there upwards of 65 years old that refers to me as “gun nut.” Jokingly, of course, as he’s about as bad as I am when it comes to this hobby. I plopped down at the bar and he struck up a conversation. Turns out he just ordered himself a side-by-side 20 gauge CZ shotgun.
Me: “Not bad! I’ve got one myself. They’re made in Turkey by a company called Huglu.”
Him: “I thought CZ was in the Czech Republic?”
Me: “Oh, yeah, they are. They make some good guns but all of their shotguns are made by Huglu in Turkey and imported by CZ under their name. There’s an entire town out there in Turkey that makes them. It’s the only place to work in the town which is why they’re all engraved by hand.”
The couple of guys sitting around us noticed this interchange, and noticed that I knew a thing or two about firearms.
The gent to my right mentions that he’s got an “old CZ military pistol.. a CZ, uhm, 52, yeah, a CZ-52. Shoots fast! Little 95 grain bullet. I chrono’ed it at like 1900fps!”
Me: “Yep, the 7.62×25mm cartridge. Fun little bugger.”
Thus began about an hour of gun talk.
God bless America.
