Laptop Woes

This morning upon venturing into the living room I found my trusty Macbook lying on the floor. I didn’t put it there. It seems the cat knocked it off it’s resting spot during the night.

I picked it up and it wasn’t responsive. So, I just killed the power figuring it’d boot up fine when I got home from work.

Since I’m posting about it you can guess that it didn’t.

Yep… total boot failure. Unable to load the kernel image even. I guess the particular sectors that hold the kernel image got “nicked” during the fall. Bummer. I grabbed my copy of OS X Tiger to restore the OS but I find that the retail version of the DVD won’t work on an Intel based Macbook. I can’t find the DVD that shipped with the Macbook itself, and I figure I must have left that at my desk when I was laid off from my previous job.

Bummer.

So, I put in a call to the Apple’s tech support and they said a local store should be able to help me out. I called the store to verify, then scheduled an appointment for tomorrow just shy of the lunch hour.

What fun.

Still.. you think you could drop into your local Best Buy and have them restore Windows on the HP laptop you bought from them? Not a chance.
