Last weekend Charter Cable sent out the same technician for the 3rd time in relation to my internet connection dropping out.
Thankfully he resolved the issue. Seems the cabling within my house, specifically the one that conects the exterior to the interior was damaged. Looks like the original owner of the house installed it himself and used electrical staples to secure it in place. With enough jostling, like perhaps yanking a bit on the bit of cable on the outside of the house, it seems reasonable that the wiring would be damaged.
With a new cable installed I’m now back to 100% uptime. Good.
Also, my laptop seems to have sprung back to life. I figured I’d use an Ubuntu Live CD for a while until I got the thing back in order, so I burned one, shoved it in the drive, and it booted up to OS X. I gave it another go, trying to get the thing to boot from the CD, failed, and ended up back at OS X. Gave it a whirl and 6 hours later it’s stll running perfectly fine.
I think I just plum got lucky with this one.
