Red’s Trading Post is being audited again. That’d be the second audit in about a month, with the previous audit showing an error rate of 1 in every 250 forms. Errors as small as letting a customer place “Y” on a form instead of “Yes” or using “Dr.” instead of “Drive” on their address.
This is bullshit of the highest degree. My previous address was “XXXX Cobb Dr. SE Apt #2B” but damned if the ATF didn’t force FFLs to make me write it out as: “XXXX Cobb Drive South East Apartment 2B.” We teach fucking 3rd graders to write addresses in the form “XXXX Cobb Dr. SE Apt #2B” but the fucking ATF will come down on your ass if you let some schmuck write that on a 4473 and still sell them a gun. I’m not making this up, but I wish I was, and it’s even a little worse than that. Currently, if you want to mail me something you’d plop the following onto an envelope:
XXXX Leonard St. NW
Grand Rapids, MI, 49534
Amazingly, the post office can figure out where I live from this. Not good enough for the ATF. Instead:
XXXX Leonard Street Northwest
Grand Rapids, Ottawa, Michigan, 49534
Did you see the subtle difference? Not only did I refrain from using abbreviations a 3rd grader would know but I had to put my county in there too. If the buyer, and the seller, forget to include that stupid county (common mistake) the FFL is in violation of the law.
Red’s Trading Post is being harassed over paperwork violations that a damned 3rd grader could interpret!
So long as government licenses gun dealerships you should assume that someone, somewhere is going to be harassed.
My question is: What candidate for President is most likely to end such foolishness?
I’ll give a hint to my answer R– P—.
Does this really surprise you?

RON PAUL 2008 :)
I wrote a nice snarky comment about Ron Paul, but I deleted it, it came across as rude. Libertarians have some great ideas and I can get behind a good portion of the ideology, but on a national scale a lot of the ideas and core beliefs would not work. I would settle for an ELECTABLE candidate who at least read the bill of rights instead of using it for toilet paper. ANYONE BUT HILLARY 2008
Oh, and Abject_Disappointment, You have no concept of what a REAL Police State is like. Seriously. This country may be on a slippery slope, but the fact that we are not discussing this in a re-education camp gives lie to your statement.
Jeremy,
Wake up and smell the fascism.
I would be happy to debate the point with you.
Before we do however, I suggest you read the following documents.
Patriot Act I & II
Military Commissions Act
-Abject.
Abject, the three examples you bring up are indeed good examples of poorly thought out, vaguely worded, and progressively invasive legislation. That being said, the key word is LEGISLATION. The Courts have struck down several sections of the Patriot Act, and as all laws, it is subject to repeal. In a true fascist country Emperor Bushito would have enacted these by fiat and locked up congress in the basement of the white house. I am not saying there is nothing wrong with this country, but when you inaccurately label this country as a fascist police state, you denigrate the lives of people who have actually had to exist under the watchful eye of the KGB or the East German Stasi. The other side of the equation is when you do not describe our current state of affairs in proper terms, people view what you say as the rantings of a wild eyed loon, even when your grievances are legitimate.
