New Ruger Product: SR9 Pistol

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

A 17+1 capacity polymer framed striker fired 9mm pistol with swappable backstraps, manual safety, loaded chamber indicator, and removable magazine disconnect safety.

I give it a “meh?” on my interest-o-meter. I’d like to fondle one at my earliest convenience but I doubt I’d go any further than that with it.

TheHighRoad.org thread on the pistol can be found here.

What I actually do find interesting is that Ruger didn’t release details on the thing until they actually had enough in stock to go around. Personally, I’d like to see more manufacturers following suit with that. I’m a bit tired of dealing with a year or more of hype and wondering before the product actually hits. By the time they do I’m no longer interested.

I’m fickle. So what?

That’s Just Awesome to Watch

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

I just found this today via THR.

MadTrigger.com’s video section. There’s a bunch of videos from IPSC and 3 gun competitions. Some of them are taken from a “hat cam” perspective which is sorta neat to watch.

I’ve never actually been to an IDPA, IPSC, or 3 gun shoot, but watching these really makes me want to partake.

Executive Decision

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

So, one of Theresa’s coworkers has a 2.5 year old yellow labrador that they’re looking to place in a new home. The old owners couldn’t keep up with it, too many kids in the house, not enough time for the dog.

We’re going to give it a trial run this weekend.

If we’re not going bat shit crazy come Monday we’ll probably be adding a 2nd dog to the house.

I’m starting to question my sanity.

The Remington R-15?

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

Looks like Remington is coming out with a line of AR-15 pattern rifles.

Sweet. Looks like they’ll be offering them in .223 and .204, which is interesting. This will give the varmint hunting crowd another off-the-shelf option.

Fake Cop In Town

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

WOOD TV8 has the story.

The suspect drives a blue, two-door Ford Aspire with flashing lights at the front of the car. He also has a red rotating light that can be placed on the top of the car. He’s known to have three law enforcement style badges, a realistic looking BB gun in a holster, handcuffs, and a hat with the initials FBI on it.

So, keep your eyes peeled.

Here’s what a Ford Aspire looks like:

I’m not really paranoid

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

Just over a month ago I posted a story about me checking out bumps in the night with a pistol on my belt.

The other night we’re sitting in the living room, it’s dark out, and I we hear a thunderous BOOM from maybe 2 houses down the road. I know that sound: It’s a shotgun of some sort. Theresa looks at me, I say, “It’s just a shotgun.” and go about my business. We hear it again a minute or so later. I suspect it was the finishing shot on a varmint in a neighbors yard.

I expect that kind of thing in this area. It doesn’t freak me out at all.

I get concerned only when I hear noises that I can’t explain away with great certainty. If one were to listen to the anti-gun camp you’d think I’d just be itching to actually run off and grab my shotgun at the drop of a hat. That isn’t the case, not even when I know without a doubt that there’s been a gun discharged within my vicinity.

Delaying CA Microstamping?

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

Thirdpower says it can’t happen until it’s patent free technology which is 2023.

Interesting.

More on the CA Microstamping law here and here.

Well, Califnoria’s fucked. The Brady Group’s press release is here.

My take on the law is here.

Not Acceptable

Friday, October 12th, 2007

I got a replacement power supply for my Macbook in the mail today. I fire it up this evening and see that my battery is completely drained. That figures… but it’s not charging back up!

Then I learn this is considered kinda normal. If you let your Macbook drain its battery it might destroy the battery. You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me! This is a known issue and there hasn’t been a recall?! Gah! Worse: I’m out of my warranty period I think. I called Apple Support the last time it busted (not a product defect in that case) and they said I had 37 days of warranty left. That was August 1. Yeah, I’m like a month out of warranty.

Shit!

They better cover this.
