Sullivan Confirmation on Hold

Idaho’s senators have put Mike Sullivan’s confirmation as head of the ATF on hold.

Color me surprised. I considered it a futile effort to try and keep Sullivan out of the office just like this guy.

In all likelihood this isn’t going to keep him out of office. Craig and Crapo won’t filibuster their party’s president’s nominee. If Sullivan says the right things, that hold will probably come off.

But that doesn’t change the fact that I was wrong about the futility of it. The fact is, Idaho’s senators know what’s going on, and are putting the screws to Sullivan. It would be a bad idea for Sullivan to start his career with two pissed off senators. He’ll want to at least try to address their concerns.

I still hold to my position that the fix to this over the long run has to come from Congress, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the office that’s been harassing Red’s Trading Post gets a spanking.
