Blogburst for Fred!

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

I don’t mean to be a dick here, but this is just plain funny.

I saw this over at Misha’s place: The Proposed Blogburst for Fred Thompson started by Rick Moran of The Right Wing Nut House.

Here’s the idea: Rick wants bloggers to blog about Fred Thompson on Thursday and ask other bloggers to do the same and to ask for donations. He’s not actually asking for Fred supporting bloggers to send in money, but for them to ask for money on behalf of Fred.

He’s already said he’s not looking for a “money bomb” but “a few tens of thousands of dollars would help.” Oh man does that ever sound pathetic.

Our buddy long-shot Ron Paul raises, on average, $213k a day in Q4 as of tonight. So, what the Fred Thompson camp can hope for over a day and a half, is what Ron Paul pulls in in 4 hours. Every four hours since October.

Totally coincidentally, and I’m not being sarcastic there, the official Thompson campaign sent out an email to supporters (the full text can be found at The Right Wing Nut House post) asking for, well, I’ll just let you read it:

I have a terrific new TV spot. You can see it now at Fred08.com. Take a look, and forward this message on to 10 of your friends.

I need your help to put it on the air. We need to put $248,846 in the bank before 6 PM EST on Friday, December 28th to do it.

What’s really got me in stitches is I checked the graph around 6pm EST tonight and it was around $38k. At midnight it’s at $65k and the flash graphic showing the “Fill The Red Pickup Truck” drive total says that the deadline is now sundown, Dec. 31st. Moving the goal posts a bit there? I could swear it had the original 6pm Dec. 28th date on there earlier tonight.

By all means, if you’re a Fred Thompson supporter go and donate. Fred is far from my last choice as a Republican candidate. I’m not trying to fear the Fred Thompson campaign down or anything, just pointing out how radically diffferent its funding is when compared to Ron Paul’s campaign which looks like it’ll come in as the leader in Q4 fundraising.

I’m going to try and publish this without it automatically creating trackback entries to Misha’s and Rick Moran’s blogs. If my Wordpress software still does it I appologise and would expect them to delete the trackback. There’s no reason for me to expect their blogs linking back to a post poking fun at their fundraising drive.

Surprise: Ron Paul isn’t a Neo-Nazi

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

You might have seen that story earlier this week. There’s been a retraction of sorts. The only truth to the original story was that Don Black, a member of Stormfront, a white supremacist group, did in fact donate $500 to the Ron Paul campaign.

All that nonsense about him meeting up with them at a Thai restaurant? Yeah, it was horse shit. Surprisingly Bill White, the Commander of the American National Socialist Workers’ Party, was lieing.

Golly! Who’d have thought a neo-Nazi might have a less than perfect moral code?
