FutureWeapons

December 14th, 2007

I swore this show off a while ago but I’m watching it now. Looks like they’ve changed formats a bit. The host isn’t whispering all the time and he doesn’t come across as “Look at me, I’m a Navy SEAL Sniper. Bask in my awesomeness!” like he did previously.

It’s not too bad now.

However, they’re doing “skits” now it seems. Staged missions and the like showing off the technology. That part sucks, but the back-and-forth with the weapons designers and such is right up my alley.

One of the things I just saw was the Corner Shot system out of Israel. Nifty idea. Not sure if it’ll pan out though. The funny thing is that they’re now putting stuffed cats on the gun that goes around the corner. I guess the idea is they’ll poke that around the corner, the target has a “WTF is a cat doing here?” moment and then they shoot them.

I’m having a WTF moment here myself.

Now, Wait a Minute…

Why in the hell is Bush sending Sullivan to the senate for confirmation? Ted Kennedy and John Kerry are all for it while both of Idaho’s Republican senators are against it.

Miami 7 Mistrial

December 14th, 2007

Remember the Miami 7? You know, the terrorist plot that was broken up back in 2006, important enough for AG Gonzales to hold a press conference on.

First trial is over. One aquitted and the jury was hung on the other six.

I doubt we’re ever going to see a conviction from this. If we do then I’m going to wager nobody serves more than 1 year in prison.

Dennis Miller on UFC

December 13th, 2007

I tuned into some new sports show with Dennis Miller as the host and he had a coule of UFC fighters on. Between segments he quipped:

You know it’s a tough sport when the referee has to tell you that eye gouging is illegal. That’s usually a given!

I like UFC and the other mixed martial arts (MMA) fightig circuits out there. Given that I wrestled for about 10 years in my life it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that I find the sport interesting.

I found out on Saturday night that a fellow from my old high school wrestling team is looking to get into the sport. Nick Piccard. His father boxed and his younger brothers were wrestlers too. Good ones at that; all of them. Here’s the youngest one’s list of accomplishments.

This should be interesting. Nick’s a tough bastard and I think well suited to the sport. I remember once watching him tear a dude’s rib off from his sternum in a match. It was all on the up-and-up, totally legal, but damn that had to hurt. I forget the name of the move (Mark and Phil, help me out!) but the opponent is broken down, you’ve got a lock on his wrist through the crotch, you drop your elbow into the middle of their back, grip their shoulder, and use that as a lever to turn them. It’s just a move for a quick turn and some backpoints, not to stick them. When the guy wouldn’t turn Nick torqued on him hard enough to pull a rib off his sternum. That hurts.

Sullivan Confirmation on Hold

December 13th, 2007

Idaho’s senators have put Mike Sullivan’s confirmation as head of the ATF on hold.

Color me surprised. I considered it a futile effort to try and keep Sullivan out of the office just like this guy.

Disecting a Negligent Discharge

December 13th, 2007

JR of “A Keyboard and a .45″ has the details here.

Lesson learned: Do not carry a 1911 with the hammer down on a live round.

I’ve never understood why anybody would ever try and do this, but they do.

Mark This Day on a Calendar

Finally, a tax hike that doesn’t strike me as needless: New 911 charges likely coming to cell phone users

Backers say the bills would stabilize funding for 911 services and hold down surcharges on landline users, noting that funding has dropped significantly in some counties as more landline users migrate solely to cell phones.

Makes sense to me.

Misha On Huckabee

December 12th, 2007

For a while now I’ve considered Huckabee to be my #3 choice in the Republican Primary, but that’s only because of his stance on the 2nd amendment. Fred Thompson comes in at #2 simply because he doesn’t appear to be a totalitarian nutjob like Romney and Guiliani do. Tancredo and Hunter are even further long shots than my #1 pick of Ron Paul so I can’t really consider them viable.

Anyway, onto Misha’s take on Huckabee:

Wow. What’s not to love?

He’s not merely a functional illiterate with less knowledge of U.S. history than your average EUroweenie fucking 2nd grader [Justin: reference to his knowledge of Cuba], he’s also a self-admitted opportunistic liar! Combine that with his hatred of his fellow citizens, calling them “racist and nativist” when they don’t agree with him that every single illegal immigrant in the country should receive for free, on the spot, what millions are waiting in line for decades and paying through the nose for, his tender heart when it comes to pardoning rapists and murderers, his love of raising taxes and his philosophy that we should deal with mentally unstable psychopaths like Ahmadinnerjacket according to the Golden Rule and it’s a wonder that he’s not ahead in the polls by 60 percent.

If he were running as a Democrat, that is.

At this point, all I can say is that the polls showing him way ahead as the potential GOP nominee in ‘08 had better be doctored by the MSM.

Ayup.

I personally believe that the best we can hope for in the Republican Primary is a knock-down drag-out brawl between Paul and Thompson.

Whoa Boy

December 11th, 2007

Looks like somebody’s started up a “parody” of the various gun blogs: Guns Makes Us Free

A sample:

The lib comminists-controlled MSM is saying that the loco church killer in Colarado shot hisself. We gunneys know its not true b/c the woman is a CHRISTEAN! They NEVER lye about nothing. She said SHE kilt him off, with Jesis holding the gun steady in her hand, Just like in the actual picturs of Jesis I posted here.
What would Jesis do? He would shoot the killer before he can kill, plus his bulets are stronger than other buletts, like Superman is stronger than normal men. CCW is in the BIBEL.

I give it 3 weeks until they burn out.

Who’d've thunk it?

December 10th, 2007

Apparently the Colorado shooter was taken out by a woman licensed to carry a concealed pistol acting as a security guard for the church in Colorado.

CNSNews.com) – Many people are expressing relief that a volunteer security guard used her own gun to stop a man on a shooting spree Sunday. “She probably saved over 100 lives,” the Brady Boyd, the pastor of the New Life Church in Colorado Springs, said on Monday. The female guard, a church member dressed in plain clothes, killed the gunman after he opened fire at the mega-church. Boyd said she “rushed toward the attacker and took him down in the hallway” as he entered the building.

Naturally, SayUncle has more.
