Techmedica Indictments

Posted on February 29th, 2008 in TechMedica by Justin

Full story here.

The indictments, which include 40 separate crimes, are against Charles Thao, Mai Lor, Nutrapha Research, Bio Nutrasource, Tony Pham, Tong Vang, Techmedia Health (also known as Frist Nutrients and K.Y.C.), Shua Vang. The defendants, who were all arrested by Thursday, could face decades in prison or hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of fines.

I got wind of this yesterday through my blog comments. Thanks for keeping me updated, guys.

If you follow the link there’s another link to a PDF of the indictment. I haven’t read it yet, but I suspect it’s quite entertaining.

Looks like this is going to hit the local news too.

Update: Comments are closed. I’m sick of people astroturfing here.

Now That’s Funny

Found here:

As always, I’m OC’ing [Openly carrying a holstered pistol - ed], and when we go to sit down, a woman comes bustling up to the table looking for her hat. Now, Mad Mex is a bar, and it’s dark, so I whip out my flashlight and shine it around so she can find her hat - at the same time I do this, I notice she’s staring at my sidearm.

My first thought (And both of my friend’s) is “Oh shit, she’s gonna make a big deal out of my weapon…” but no, instead she says:

“You carry a Flashlight AND a Gun! I have to introduce you to my daughter!”

Heh.

Guitar Hero

Posted on February 25th, 2008 in Personal Life, Tech by Justin

So, I bought Guitar Hero III for the Wii a few weeks ago. I’d played with some friends before and it was interesting, but never a game I could see myself setting down in front of to play every couple of nights because it’s too frustrating.

I was wrong at at least one account. It’s horribly frustrating, but I settle down a play it quite frequently.

I’ve finally graduated to the “hard” level of playing and it’s pissing me off to no end. On one in four songs I just get “stuck” and that irks me. Of course, they’re always songs that I don’t know. I just beat one of them after probably 70 tries to be confronted with “Even Flow” by Pearl Jam and sailed right through it on the first try.

Here’s what’s funny: This is just like the old NES games. There’s a lot of timing and memorization going on.

I’ve found that with the Wii I’m addicted to buying the old NES games that I played for hours. Upon playing them I find them frustrating as all get-out. They’re frustrating, time consuming, pedantic little monsters. I can’t stand them for more than 10 minutes at a time. I still like them, but I’m easily frustrated.

Somehow, I can tolerate this out of Guitar Hero.

Fusion Firearms

Their website can be found here.

The founder/owner used to be the head honcho over at Dan Wesson and now he’s making 1911’s and selling 1911 parts.

When I went shopping around for a guide rod to a 1911 I was a bit irked by the big guys like Ed Brown, Brownells, Midway, etc. They were all asking about $15 for a guide rod plus another $10 for shipping and handling.

Ten bucks to ship a 2 oz chunk of solid steel? Fuck that noise.

Fusion’s Ebay Store has them for sale at $9.95 plus $4.95 in shipping and handling. Sold.

Weekend Update

Posted on February 17th, 2008 in Personal Life by Justin

Theresa and I spent the weekend in Frankenmuth, MI on family business.

Her grandmother passed on last week. A sad occasion, but it was nice to see her family again. Audrey passed on Feb. 12 this year. Two of her grandchildren were born on Jan. 31 just a few hours apart. She was actually staying in the same hospital that one of her grandchildren was born in, so she got to see him before she passed. The other grandchild, born way down in Georgia, she still got to see through pictures sent via cell phones.

It’s nice when technology enables us to do what was once impossible.

Some highlights from the weekend:

My soon-to-be-nephew that’s 18 months old has been taught some simple sign-language type stuff so far. The symbol for “I’m done eating” is putting his hands on his head. It works pretty well. Well, it did until he got old enough to eat with his hands. Imagine what a blonde-haired blue-eyed kids looks like just after giving the “all done” sign after mowing down on a plate of spaghetti. Hint: It’s hilarious if you’re not the one that has to clean him up.

The same almost-nephew recently learned how to squeal. He has a happy one and not happy one. It’s cute, and he really doesn’t do it too often. On Saturday we had lunch in a bar/pub/tavern type place and he let out a few of them. The place was pretty packed. It wasn’t a quiet evening dinner type event. Some crotchety old bitch at the next table actually yelled “SHUT UP!” at him when he did it once. He wasn’t howling at the moon or anything. He grabbed a French Fry, squealed with delight, and bit it. Big friggen deal, lady. You have issues.

Two week old babies sleep a lot. That’s nice.

My almost brother-in-law from the area invited the almost-brother-in-law from Georgia and I to a Texas Hold’em Poker game. The Georgian and I showed up late (because of me) so we just played in the cash game going on. Unknown to us the cash game was actually the one where more money was at play. Minimum buy-in was $50. I’m not used to that. I’ve played very little poker in my life. It did not go well. On the ride there the Georgian told me he had played a little poker. I didn’t realize how little that actually was. When the terms “big blind” and “small blind” are foreign to you, well… he did even worse than I did.

We were late because I needed some time to try and fix my back. I mucked it up on Tuesday and by Thursday night I couldn’t even sleep right. Friday morning I snagged some Ibuprofen from the drug store along with some cough syrup. The active ingredient in cough syrup, dextromethorphan hydrobromide, is a dissociative which puts it in the same class as Ketamine. In my experience if you double up on the dosage (don’t get the stuff with ancetametaphin in it if you do this) it can work as a cheap muscle relaxer. It didn’t work. So, Friday night I did the fail-safe treatment: A good belt of whisky and 15 minutes in the hot tub. Viola. I’m back to 95%.

Gun Cleaning Night

Posted on February 13th, 2008 in Guns by Justin

After doing some chores around the house I decided to hunker down in my Gungeon Room and clean up a few pistols.

The Walther P22 was one of them. I’ve bee kinda harsh on the pistol because of my reliability issues with it. In fiddling with it I realized that there was an awful lot of grit in there. So, I did something I’ve never done to a pistol before: Dunked the thing in hot soap water and swished it about and dried it off with a hair dryer. I put a little oil on the parts that are actually steel and reassembled. No more grit. Hold-open on an empty magazine still doesn’t work.

Cleaned the CZ-75B up too. No issues ther.e

Last up was a quick re-oil of my S&W 1911SC. Whoever decided this thing needed to ship with a full length guide rod (FLGR) needs to be tortured. I’ve got a cut on my pinky finger and three dings in my drywall thanks to that piece of shit. It’s a Scadium framed pistol, which I gather required a heavier recoil spring to keep from beating up the frame, which make depressing that damned thing down far enough to get the barrel bushing on quite a chore for people that are disabled such as myself in that I only have two fucking hands! Now, maybe I’m doing something wrong. I push it place with the shitty bushing wrench that ships with it then bring a 3/32″ punch tool in to push it down that extra 1/16″ or so that I need to actually get the bushing in. That means I’m balancing probably 14 pounds of force on a teeny-tiny little 3/32″ circle placed again. With one hand. I need the other hand to actually grab the bushing and put it in place. After about 20 tries I actually get it right.

Time to put in an order with Brownells I think.
