5.45×39mm

AIM Surplus has 5.45×39mm ammo on sale for $120 per 1080 rounds right now. It’s been that way for a while but I hear the wholesale price jumped up north of that recently so I’m not sure how much longer that deal will last.

When you compare this to any 5.56/.223 stuff on the market that’s less than 1/3rd the cost.

Now, seeing as how S&W is going to release a 5.45×39mm upper soon for $600 it’s really tempting to stock away 3-4 cases of the stuff and just dump my 5.56 upper for a few years. Well, it would be if I shot that much. Unfortunately I don’t, but it’s still tempting.

I’m sort of kicking myself for not buying that single-stack WASR-2 that the local Dunham’s had on sale for $200 back on Black Friday. Then I’d have a reason to stow away to cases right now.

Still, if you’re thinking about getting an AK or AR right now I’d lean heavily toward 5.45 and load up on it pronto.
