Possible Heller Decision

June 23rd, 2008

Folks smarter than I are saying that Heller could very well come out today.

SCOTUSBlog will be live blogging it. If their main site is unreachable the backup is here.

Is First National Bank Anti-Gun? Part II

June 23rd, 2008

In the comments over at Sebastian’s Cam Edwards chimes in to inform us that Max Motor’s issue is with the First National Bank of Kansas whereas the credit cards I was talking about come from the First National Bank of Omaha.

I have no idea how their org chart works within First National Bank, but their webpages seem to indicate that the Omaha and Kansas banks are descendants of the original First National of Nebraska.

So, I might have a little egg on my face for equating the two, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to point out the differing practices of two branches of the same parent company.

It should be interesting how this all shakes out.

Bill Akins Sueing the ATF

June 23rd, 2008

Jef Soyer has the details.

I say good for Bill. The ATF approved his design and he went to market with their approval. They reviewed the design after he went into production and pulled the plug on it. There is no known documented procedure for reviewing a previously approved design. BIll Akins did what he had to do to get permission to sell his product and they screwed him out of money by reversing their previous decision.

Seems like a good enough reason to bring a lawsuit to me.

Is First National Bank Anti-Gun?

June 20th, 2008

According to Max Motors it is.

I might have to keep on this on as I’ve got a credit card issued by First National Bank.

It’s the one with the NRA Logo on it.

Problem Solves Itself

June 18th, 2008

Crook dies attempting a home robbery.

Looks like a 19 year old critter decided that appendix carry, sans holster, was the way to go. Upon breaking down the door to a house he goes to pull his gun and shoots himself in the gut, drops gun, runs off, and the police find him at 5:30am in a driveway.

Dead.

Republican Congressman introduces another Assault Weapons Ban

June 18th, 2008

Here’s he bill. I found it because Thirdpower mentioned it.

It does look like the same text as the 1994 AWB, right down to the grandfathering date.

I wouldn’t worry much about this. It looks like it’s just a little pre-election attention whoring by a few Republican members of Congress. They’re probably just looking for a sound bite to put into their ads for reelection.

DC Checkpoints Ended

June 18th, 2008

That didn’t take long. I first mentioned them here.

They gave it up last week Thursday. Last week Wednesday there were 8 homicides not far from where the checkpoints were.

I’m not an expert in these things, but it seems to me if you’re looking to reduce crime in the area you’d start locking up the people responsible for it. Have they tried that yet?

Michigan Bank Robbery Stopped

June 18th, 2008

This one has me giggling.

Some nutter walks into an eastern Michigan bank and hands the teller a note saying he’s got a bomb on him and he wants money. A customer gets wind of this, pulls a pistol on the man and informs him he’s not robbing the bank. Nutter responds that he’s got a bomb. Customer responds with, “I don’t care.”

Turns out the nutter didn’t have a bomb anyway, so that’s good. The customer with the concealed weapon made him sit on a chair until police arrived.

The Aquatic Adventures of Chuck Norris

June 15th, 2008

We’ve been trying to get Chuck used to the water for the past few weekends. Saturday Theresa finally dragged him out far enough that he couldn’t touch and led him around in a tight circle. After a bit she pointed him toward shore and let him go. That worked pretty well.

Our dog is now a swimmer.

NJ Gun Ban Progresses

June 12th, 2008

Sebastian reports that it’s out of committee now.

Link includes a partial list of the guns that would be banned if this bullshit goes through. Basically anything with a bore of .50 caliber or higher is out the door. Muzzle loaders included, unless they have wooden stocks and sights made if iron.

On one hand I presume that the NJ legislators don’t know what they’re actually doing here. On the other hand, I’m cynical enough to believe that they know exactly what they’re doing, and they’re hoping that the public will see “50 caliber ban” and applaud them.
