Cop Show Fail

So, I’m watching Law & Order tonight because the wife left it on the following 3 things were stated within 30 seconds:

1) They have a suspect because of a DNA match. They have his DNA because he was convicted of a felony.
2) They also know it was him because the handgun used in the crime was gold plated and the suspect had a gold plated handgun registered to him. (Uh, convicted felon with a registered handgun in NYC? False.)
3) The suspect blew a “2 point 2″ in his DUI case which lead to the felony conviction. (That’s about 4 times higher than “should be dead.” I think the record for still being alive is 0.9.)

The sad thing is people watch this, believe it, and carry that “knowledge” into the jury box.

You mean what they say on TV isn’t true …. crap, I need to change my whole outlook on life.

Wikipedia lists a 30 year old male with a BAC of 1.50 who arrived at the hospital in a deeply comatose state … and survived. I think 0.2 was listed as “most people are unconscious at this point”.

Wasn’t a 0.2 BAC the minimum that we registered after lunch before returning to work at Trident Technologies?

Sorry but a local guy blew a 5.0 and was alive to face the judge here locally…..The news and the Judge did comment that he was well over the amount that usually kills you !!!

Sorry, SPC, but you’ve got the decimal point one place to the right on that. It’s a pretty common error.

An 180lb male has to drink a fifth (750ml) of 80 proof (40% alcohol) liquor to get into the 0.40 BAC range. In an hour. That puts you into the “you might die” zone.

To get to 5.0 you’d have to drink 10 fifths of 40 proof liquor in an hour and probably add a little on top of that.

The way we measure it, at least in the US, means a 5.0 BAC indicates half of your bloodstream is alcohol. That’s 1.5 gallons of pure alcohol. About 6 fifths of Everclear. In an hour.

Even Andre the Giant (Drinker) took an entire night to drink that much…
