.45ACP 1911 vs. .40S&W Glock

I like both the Glock and 1911 platform. I prefer the 1911 in some ways and the Glock in others. It’s pretty much 6 of one and half a dozen of the other. If I had to give up my Glock 23 or my S&W 1911SC it’d be a pretty tough decision to make.

So, last night around 11:00pm I hear a crash, thump, and a dog going ape-shit upstairs. Wife’s in bed. I’m at my desk in the basement. I’ve got a Kel-Tec P3AT, Glock 23, S&W 1911SC, and CZ RAMI in .40S&W all within an arm’s reach.

It took about 0.2 microseconds for me to decide on the Glock.

Take from that what you will.

  1. Odd. I wrote about that nearly two years ago. I came out on the other side.

I’m pretty sure I’d grab for the 1911 as well. But my Glock is a subcompact and the 1911 is full sized, so it’s not much of an even comparison.

In my mind it is 8 vs 15, I always lean toward 15. (I have 9mm Glocks so I lean toward 17 and sometimes 33.)

Glocks are used by 65% of law enforcement……FBI uses the 23 (mid size .40) I have a Glock 23 in the night stand quick access safe and carry a Glock 26 concealed…..they work….not tack drivers like a custom 1911 but with good ammo they always go bang !!! Nuff said….

I’ve had a bad experience with my Glock 36. It jams a LOT.. When talking to the sales guy about it he says it’s a complete redesign from their other pistols.. Not sure if this is true or not.. He also said that it had to be jamming because of how I held it, but none of my other pistols have this problem (except the Bersa I sold). Plus, if a pistol jams because of how you HOLD it, then shouldn’t I be worried? Who knows how I’ll be holding it if I had to reach for it in the middle of the night to save myself.

I know.. Generally speaking they are dependable.. I’ve just had a bad experience and choose to use my HK.
