I’ve had some thoughts kicking around in my head for a while but can’t seem to turn up much on my own. So, looking to see if others know anything about this.
1) Looking to find frangible 00 Buck pellets for reloading. Not already loaded shells. Those things are freaking expensive.
2) I know Mas Ayoob says a prosecutor can make your life hell if you use handloads in a self defense shooting but I’ve always seen that discussion center around handloaded pistol ammunition. Is it pretty much universal?
I’d like to get into reloading my own 00 Buck shells for practice and started to think that if I could get a frangible load going I could possibly use them for steel plate shoots if the event organizer is OK with it. That and if I actually liked how they performed maybe I’d keep some handy for home defense use. In my mind it’d be incredibly difficult for a prosecutor to paint somebody as an evil villain out for blood when the shooting is in your own home and you’re using a common 12 gauge shotgun regardless of what it’s loaded with. Granted, I don’t understand how that gains any traction with juries with regards to pistols either, but I have a handle on the topic. They don’t.
