I was a wrestler in my school days. I did it for about 9 years wouldn’t trade that time for anything.

Tonight I stumbled upon this story. A kid down in Ohio is currently 41-2 for the season as a junior in the 103lb. weight class… and he’s a quadruple amputee.

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/MtXx6UtrXLw&rel=1&border=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent"width="425" height="355">

First off, this kid will make it in life. I have no doubt about that. When I look around and see what’s become of all my old high school wrestling friends there isn’t a failure in adult life in that group. This kid seems to have that same spirit, and I’m happy for him. I’d love to meet the guy.

I hate to say this, but, how in the hell do you wrestle a quadruple amputee? Seriously. The whole sport centers around using your opponents limbs as leverage and things like ankles and wrists making great holding points. He doesn’t have those! He’s been training with regular shaped folks for years and the poor bastards that go out against him have probably never encountered a quadruple amputee before. Anybody that steps foot on the mat with him is going to have to adopt a totally different strategy to everything they do. Years of training and technique will be tossed right out the window as useless. It’s a totally new game for everybody, except him.

He’s got a bit of an advantage there.
