February 15th, 2008Shock Collar
October 22nd, 2007Theresa and I went out today and picked up a shock collar for Chuck Norris. With a 2nd dog in the house it’s become apparent that we need something to discipline him with. The dog #2, Cooper, isn’t up for playing around Chuck will follow him around and nip at him constantly. It’s annoying for Cooper, it results in a dog barking match, and general chaos. If I get up from wherever I am and walk over the behavior stops… then starts again as soon as I leave. So, I need something that can be applied while the incorrect behavior is occuring.
This should also be helpful in keeping him from leaving our yard. Cooper is really good about stayin in our back yard, but Chuck hasn’t ever quite gotten the hang of this. If he leaves the property and you chase him he thinks it’s a game. He’s also horrible about coming to you when you call him by name when he’s outside.
So, shock collar time.
Yeah, people might think it’s cruel. Whatever. My brother and I tried the thing out before I put it on the dog. There are 10 levels of shock to the thing. We tried it out on setting #1 first, and that didn’t do more than just tingle. We gradually ramped it up until we were at #7 and that was PAIN. Shit that hurt! I put it on the dog at setting #2 first but that didn’t do anthing to him. At #4 he notices the pain, but it isn’t strong enough to make him yelp. He just makes a retarded face .
Based on today’s results, I probably won’t even need the thing in a week.
2nd Dog Trial: Night 1
October 19th, 2007Previous entry here.
The new dog, Cooper, was brought over tonight. We let the two of them romp around in the baement for about an hour getting to know each other. It seems to be going well. Chuck Norris has been mounted a few times. The new dog makes Chuck look small, and he’s a solid 80 pounds.
I’ll see if I can get some pictures tomorrow or something. Right now I’m kinda worn out. I’m getting over a slight flu, sneezing and coughing and the like.
Executive Decision
October 18th, 2007So, one of Theresa’s coworkers has a 2.5 year old yellow labrador that they’re looking to place in a new home. The old owners couldn’t keep up with it, too many kids in the house, not enough time for the dog.
We’re going to give it a trial run this weekend.
If we’re not going bat shit crazy come Monday we’ll probably be adding a 2nd dog to the house.
I’m starting to question my sanity.
Chuck Norris Ate My Couch
October 11th, 2007We just discovered this minutes ago. Apparently he tore open one of the cushions (they’re attached, not free-floating) and removed all the foam padding on the inside.
The only good news here is that it’s my old couch, the one I bought back in 2001, that we never use any more.
Looks like FTP access to my site is down right now. I’ll post the picture later.
Catblogging
October 9th, 2007I shirked my duties as a member of the Triangle of Death after work today to take a kitten to the vet.
Little bugger has had a cold for weeks and it’s not going away despite the antibiotics we fed him for 2 weeks.

Sick, but still cute.
So, I packed the little guy up after work today and took him in for an appointment. He’s sick, but not sickly. He’s put on 1 lb. 4 oz. since his last visit, which was 2.5 weeks ago. No worries about loss of appetite there. They just suggested putting him back on the antibiotics but upping the dosage.
Other suggestions included getting more fluids into him by feeding him wet food, or maybe some tuna juices during the day. That should be pretty easy to do: The little critter likes hanging out at my desk, sitting behind my laptop, so I can give him a bowl of wet food and make sure that the other cats don’t get to it before he does.
Kinda cool, this whole “home office” thing.

September 19th, 2007Just some updates on what’s going on over here at Buist’s Bunker.
My commute has been drastically shortened. It has dropped from 30 minutes each way down to the distance from my bedroom to the desk in my kitchen. Yes, I now work from home. I’ve generally been wary of doing this, but that was largely because previously I lived in a tiny apartment and there was no way for me to keep separate my living area from my work area. Now that I have a house, it’s easier, and truth be told, it makes things a bit more efficient. For instance, today I had to take the kittens into the vet. Instead of cutting out of work early, driving 30 minutes home, and 8 minutes to the vet, I just scooped the critters up and took them to the vet at 4pm.
And on that note: The kittens aren’t doing too well. They’re OK, but they have had the flu for a while and one of them was snotting up pretty bad. So, antibiotics for them. On Tuesday night we found a tapeworm segment on one, and Wednesday morning I found another segment on the other kitten. They were medicated for this today. They got their second round of vaccinations today too
And on that note: I’m an idiot. I took the kittens into the vet in a little carrier and plopped them within 4 feet of another cat. Five minutes later a technician asked me if my kittens were sneezing and I replied, “Yep, they both are.” and then I realized my mistake: Yeah, don’t put the sick kittens next to the healthy cat.
Since I’m already talking about the pets, here’s one more: You know those 2 foot long rawhide bones that you see in pet stores? Yeah, I always thought those were kinda “hick-ish” and something you’d only buy a dog if you wanted to show off how big they are. Well, I gave into that. We had been buying Chuck, our lab, 6″-7″ rawhide bones for a while in packs of 10, costing about $12. He can plow through one in under an hour now. So, we finally got him a big-ass 2′ long rawhide and that’s working much better. I don’t need to fetch him a new one every single night to keep him occupied. So, we got a giant one, for about $12, and that’s working splendid. Boy was he ever proud of that thing when I first gave it to him. He picked it up in his jaws and pranced around the house with a “Look what I got!!” expression. Unfortunately he tends to bang into the walls with it when he’s wandering about. He’s not the smartest dog in the world, but we love him.
This is my life.
I really need to hit the shooting range this weekend.
Free Cats!
September 4th, 2007I swear I’m not turning this place into a cat blog. This weekend a coworker in Sand Hill, MI decided it’s time to find new homes for a couple of their cats. He was hoping I’d take them in but that’s really possible right now.
Here they are:

I’m not always right.
September 3rd, 2007If you’ve been here for any length of time you’ve probably found something to disagree with me on. That’s normal.
Some folks might take issue with the number of arms that I keep. Some might disagree with my opinion on gear, what they’re good for, or the loads I keep in my home defense guns. Some might think my views on taxation are a bit off. Maybe there isn’t a centralized plan to create a one world government by gradually merging nations into single economic entities via NAFTA and CAFTA. Maybe we’re not marching toward a police state right here in the US of A.
Those are all topics I’m willing to debate.
However, if this isn’t God awful cute:

… well, I’m not sure you’ve got a soul.
